Toxic America – Top Tips

If you missed CNN”s Toxic America, 2 Part series, fear not!

I’ve summarized some useful information to help us make our bodies and our homes less toxic.

Here’s a  CNN List that you can print out and post on your refrigerator of some top foods to be concerned about.  If one of your favorite foods is on the list, you don’t need to eliminate it from your diet. For fruits and vegetables, go ahead and eat them, just wash them well before. If a favorite fish is on the list, just eat it in moderation.

Here is a short list of some easy ways to keep a less toxic home……

1)  Take off shoes at the door so you don’t track pesticides and fertilizer in.

2)  Use a water filter – reverse osmosis is the ‘gold standard’.

3)  Make sure your meat and dairy is cared for without the use of hormones and antibiotics.

4)  Try to buy organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible. If it’s not economically feasible to buy organic, take extra care when washing.

5)  Don’t use non-stick cookware. Stainless steel is a good alternative.

6)  Store food in glass, not plastic (warm or cold food).

7)  Get a few house plants. They can eliminate up to 90% of the toxins caused by carpet and drapes.

Babies come into the world with over 230 toxic chemicals already in their little bodies. No one can say for certain what the repercussions are, but we do know that childhood diseases and cancers are on the rise. Will these simple changes make a difference? Many scientists think they will. Of course there are those who think it’s ridiculous, but it can’t hurt to try.
