Fat-Free Banana Bread

Fat-Free Banana Bread

I cannot remember where I originally found this recipe, but I make it all the time. I’ve tried other vegan banana bread recipes, but they were too complicated. This one is simple to make and very very versatile. Add whatever kind of nuts you like, or raisins, chocolate chips, even blueberries.

It’s great warmed up for breakfast, or easy to eat on the go.


3 medium bananas (overripe works best…they should be spotted)
1/4 cup raw sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce
1/2 cup milk (I like coconut, but rice or soy are fine too)
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup oat flour
1/2 cup whole wheat pastry flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/3 cup chopped walnuts


  1. Preheat 350 F
  2. Place bananas and sugar in a food processor and blend until smooth (you can also cream them together using a spatula and a little elbow greased) cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, milk and applesauce to the banana mixture and stir to combine
  3. In a large bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda and powder together
  4. Mix dry into wet and add nuts if desired
  5. Stir gently until just combined
  6. Pour into a sprayed bread pan
  7. Bake 50 minutes to 1 hour (careful not to dry out or burn the bread, keep a watchful eye after 45 minutes, checking every 2 minutes or so)
