Recycle Crayons with the Kids!

Recycling crayons has solved a lot of problems for me for sure! First, my 16 month old loves to break crayons after only seconds of use – what a waste! Now the pieces are too small to use. Also, he loves to try to put the smaller pieces in his mouth.  A great solution is to melt all the small pieces into larger ones so the kids can keep using them.

Not only is the solution simple, it’s also fun!

All you need are…….
Old crayons
Mini-cake tins (pans with fun shapes are usually a big hit)

Crayon How-To
1. Preheat oven to 150 degrees.

2.  Chop crayons into pea-size pieces.

3. Have the kids fill the tin with crayon pieces, arranging them in interesting designs.

3. Bake long enough to melt the wax, 10 to 15 minutes.

4. Wait for the shapes to cool and pop them out. If they are sticking, you can put the pan in the freezer or refrgerator for 30-60 minutes.

Here’s how it looks step by step………….

Now they are melted after being in the oven for about 15 minutes……….

I put the try in the refrigerator for 30 minutes and they popped right out!

Fun to make – fun to play with!
