As a lawyer, I didn’t think I would end up devoting years of my life uncovering how to be a healthy, fully functioning human being. I foolishly thought doctors would take care of that for me.
After having my first child (I have 4), I quickly learned that I was in the best position to know what was going on, and that the ten minute office visits to the doctor were not uncovering the root of our issues. By the time my two oldest children were 4 and 2, they had already been on quite a few rounds of antibiotics for unexplained ear infections. Our pediatrician even started taking about surgery for their ears to insert tubes. I had been seeing a holistic/functional physician for years, but for whatever reason it hadn’t occurred to me to take my children to a holistic practitioner as well. I decided to do just that, and she very quickly suggested we try eliminated dairy from their diets. They’re 10 and 12 years old now, and they haven’t had a round of antibiotics since that day.
I became so fascinated with using food and supplements as medicine that I changed careers and became a health coach, then eventually a functional diagnostic nutritionist (FDN).
We’ve tackled mold illness, thyroid disease (Hashimoto), parasites, heavy metal toxicity, leaky gut and more – all without traditional medicine. We came out stronger -not weaker. We addressed our issues by eradicating the actual problems rather than treating symptoms. I know that sounds like a lot of health issues, but most of us have them, I just know what to look for and address it before it becomes chronic.
We are faced with more health challenges than ever before. Our food is not what it was 40 years ago. We are living in a world with more chemicals than ever before.
But it’s all ok. There are hacks for living your life in optimal health, and happiness.
